Add captions to a video
Drop in a clip and Ymotion transcribes it, cuts the words into readable phrases, decides which of them carry the point, designs the type around that, and hands back an MP4. The parts you disagree with are all controls you can change.
What happens to your clip
The file goes straight to storage from your browser. It never passes through a server on the way. It is measured, transcribed once, and captioned. Making a second project from the same recording does not pay to transcribe it again.
Nothing is guessed at
The canvas comes from the clip’s measured size, the frame rate from the clip’s own rate. A clip that has not been measured is refused rather than given a canvas nobody chose, because the failure that causes, a video silently exported at the wrong shape, is worse than an error.
The export is CRF 17 at the slow preset: visually lossless. Captioning a video should not be the reason it looks worse than what you shot.
Everything the design chose is editable
Typeface pairing, colour, entrance, arrangement, spacing, the plate behind the words, where the block sits, all controls. The design is a starting point that is right more often than not, not a decision you are stuck with, and everything it produced is ordinary keyframes underneath.

- What video formats can I upload?
- Anything a browser can play. MP4 and MOV cover almost everything. Audio-only files work too, and are captioned over a colour card.
- Do I need to write a subtitle file?
- No. If you already have an SRT you can bring it and skip transcription; otherwise the clip is transcribed for you.
- How long can a clip be?
- Up to 5 minutes per clip. Ymotion is built for short vertical video, where a caption is read in the corner of the eye rather than studied.
- Does captioning reduce the quality of my video?
- No. The output keeps the source resolution and frame rate and is encoded visually losslessly, so the file is larger than the original rather than softer.
